Talentovani Australijanac u Zvezdinim redovima!

2. Kako je počela tvoja ragbi karijera u Australiji?
Karijeru sam počeo kada sam imao 12 godina.

Interview with Jack O’Brien

1. Jack, tell us something more about yourself and your background.
My full name is Jack O’Brien, I’m originally from Mascot, which is an area located in South Sydney. I am 24 years old and have been playing rugby league since I was four.

2. How did your career in rugby league start in Australia?
My career started with rugby league when I was 12 years old, I was scouted by South Sydney Rabbitohs to play in their junior representative team. At that age I excelled and was offered a contract to play with them until I was 18 years old.

3. Given that you’ve just arrived from playing in England’s ’League 1’ competition, how would you describe your experience of the game in England?
Playing in England was definitely a crazy experience for me. It was my first time living and playing rugby league in another country, so I had to learn to adapt quickly. On top of that, the ‘League 1’ competition was very different compared to the one I played back in Australia, with many more games, so I had to condition my body to withstand a tough season.

4. This is your first time in Belgrade. How are your first impressions when it comes to our club, the people and the city itself?
This is true. The club has been nothing but welcoming and generous since I’ve touched down. Mark and Zeljko came to pick me up from the airport and have been the best hosts you could hope for. Serbian people are very passionate and it reflects in their love of the game. As for the city, it’s awesome; a blend of history and modernity, absolute wild nightlife as well – it’s no wonder everyone here says it’s the party capital of Europe.

5. How did you feel when you received the invitation to play for Red Star?
I was very excited, as this is a new chapter in my rugby league story. Serbia is on the up and coming with rugby league and I was very interested to be able to help out with this development.

6. What motivates you to work on yourself in terms of rugby league?
Rugby league is the toughest game in the world, where the impact of tackling and the level of fitness required to perform at a high level without injury is very high. That’s why I need to continue to push myself off the field, so I can perform on the field.

7. How do you spend your time off the pitch?
I enjoy my fitness and going to the gym, so I try to go as much as I can. Food is also a passion of mine, so I’m either eating or looking forward to the next meal. Other than that, I like to read and just hang out.

8. And, finally, what can our fans expect from you on the pitch?
In attack I’m a line-running second rower who’s dangerous near the line, but defence is where I do a lot of my work. I’m not exactly a big hitter, but I can play a full 80 minutes and have been known to top the tackle count.
